Our plugin replaces built-in constraints solver of AutoCAD with Cheetah Solver.
Any AutoCAD user, familiar with parametric functionality of AutoCAD, will find the work with Cheetah Solver to be quite similar to the regular work with AutoCAD parametric.
User works with the same “Parametric” tab of the Ribbon control, but now, when Cheetah plugin is enabled, he is working with Cheetah parametric, not with the native parametric of AutoCAD.
When you installed Cheetah Solver plugin for AutoCAD, you have an option to work in two modes: standard AutoCAD mode, and Cheetah mode. You can easily switch from one mode to another.
In Cheetah mode, not only Cheetah solver replaces AutoCAD built-in solver, but also the whole system of AutoCAD constraints is replaced by the Cheetah system of constraints. In this mode “Switch On” button is disabled (because Cheetah mode is already On), and “Switch Off”, “Convert” and “Cheetah Auto Constrain” buttons are enabled.
Using one of the following buttons you can switch off Cheetah mode and return to the native AutoCAD parametrics:
In the standard AutoCAD mode, you work with AutoCAD as if there is no Cheetah plugin installed. In this mode, “Switch Off”, “Convert” and “Cheetah Auto Constrain” buttons are disabled, and “Switch On” button is enabled. Using “Switch On” button you can enable Cheetah mode and start using Cheetah parametric.
As it was already mentioned, Cheetah solver works with its own system of constraints. Thus, when you switch to Cheetah mode, all regular AutoCAD constraints are converted into Cheetah constraints. After this conversion is finished, all regular AutoCAD constraints are deleted.
When you are already in Cheetah mode, and you open some dwg-file containing regular AutoCAD constraints, all these constraints are also converted automatically into Cheetah constraints and all AutoCAD constraints are deleted.
If, after that, you disable Cheetah plugin by clicking “Switch Off” button AutoCAD starts working as if there are no constraints at all in this model (because all native AutoCAD constraints were deleted while converting model into Cheetah mode).
However, Cheetah constraints are not totally deleted – they are kept in corresponding dataset.
If you turn on Cheetah plugin again, all Cheetah constraints will be returned back. The model will be updated taking into account all previously created Cheetah constraints.
When you save file, being in Cheetah mode, all Cheetah constraints are saved in the dwg-file together with other data.
If someone will open this file in AutoCAD that has no Cheetah plugin installed, he will see the AutoCAD model without constraints. However, if he opens the same file in AutoCAD with Cheetah plugin, all Cheetah constraints will be loaded from the dwg-file.
